Just wanted to share this recent episode of the Female Athlete Podcast. It is on the topic of harassment and exercise, featuring stories from women sharing their experiences and insights from Dave Hindley’s research on this topic.

This is an incredibly important issue for society and a significant aspect in the gendered geographies of running. I saw Steph Merchant talk powerfully about ‘Gendered Runscapes: empowerment, fear and perceptions of the city’ a few years ago and it is certainly a topic that we need to understand better and act more upon. Harassment hugely affects exercise uptake and experiences, and can result in very different amounts of ‘safety work’ people do on the run, as Dave discusses in the podcast episode. Certainly worth listening to and contemplating further.
